Beta Alanine is an amino acid which is synthesized in the liver and is commonly found in animal foods such as beef and chicken. Beta Alanine is not incorporated into proteins but rather combines with histidine within skeletal muscle tissue to form carnosine, and it is the limiting factor in synthesis of carnosine in muscle tissue.
Beta Alanine is commonly taken as a supplement to support improved athletic endurance, but research has found Beta Alanine may support healthy aging as well.
For use as a supplement for athletic endurance we recommend taking 2-4 capsules (1500– 3000mg) about an hour before exercise. We don’t recommend exceeding 6 capsules per day.
Taking large doses of Beta Alanine can sometimes cause a decline in taurine levels in muscle tissue, as it can compete with taurine for absorption in muscles. This is highly unlikely at the recommended dosage, but possible at high doses used over long periods of time.
